This is the home page for TEDATUM.COM. A registered domain since 1995 and perhaps a bit earlier. It provides business and personal email service and subdomain websites. The domain hosts commercial and personal web site activities. Some are available inside this site to members only. Several subdomain websites are supported through normal access to their existing URL's.
T.E.Datum Publishing is a small Internet publishing business I currently run very informally. It is a real, sole proprietor business with its own registered Identity and bank account. I currently manage over a dozen web sites and the client sites I manage are currently of the low maintenance display type. That means I provide my clients with a web presence but they are not e-commerce or interactive sites.
I maintain current state of the art tools and abilities to produce and maintain these sites as well as my own. Actually the client sites are a spinoff of creating and managing my personal and business sites. Other people (friends) saw what I was doing and asked if I could do something for them. That’s why I call it an “informal” arrangement. All my clients are people whom I personally know, for reasons other than managing their web site.
I run my own active e-commerce site, The Hobbyist Machine Store, three blogs, several photo display sites and several very large hobby activity sites. The remaining are client sites. I have an unlimited space remote server I rent. I provide email accounts, domain registration, database and all the goodies to set up just about any type of web presence. I currently manage well over 20 domains and sub-domains.
I am currently operating several new “Joomla” based “content management” sites which I see can be very useful for myself and clients who want to have a web site where they can do some publishing, content editing and even blog style interactions. Up until I started exploring Joomla, it was difficult to provide a customer with the ability to manage their own content. It usually required special (extra cost) software for the client to use and required some knowledge of how it all worked together.
T.E.Datum Publishing is now able to set up a custom web site and provide easy Joomla publisher access for the client. This site is running in Joomla as an example of what can be done.
My operation is still low key and you probably had to look hard to find this information. If you are interested in my help, just find a way to contact me and we will discuss your needs.
I have run several small businesses under the name Tippecanoe Electronic Datum. The very first use was to purchase electronic components for devices I was making for amateur radio and electronic controls. The T.E.Datum name was used mostly to establish a business name and open accounts with various component suppliers. If I could turn something I was experimenting with into a product, I didn't want to establish a new business identity for buying in larger quantities. Nothing illegal about that. Just pay the bills.
Tippecanoe happened to be the name of the street where I was living at the time and I just liked the sound of the word. There is some history behind the name but it doesn't apply to my business. Datum is the base reference line in a drawing as well as a given fact or a piece of information.
I got into serious desktop publishing. I had previously done newsletters for many years that were not for profit. I decided to invest in professional level publishing tools, printers (laser), computers and Adobe software, I did some commercial marketing brochures and bulk mail operations. I created T.E.Datum Publishing to fit that sideline business. It was nothing big enough to make me quit my real job,
The next rise of the name from the paper publishing ashes was electronic web publishing. I love this WWW work because it incorporates full color, photography and a host of layout and publishing skills. Also unlike Ink printing, corrections are easy to make, even after the deadline.
The T.E.Datum Publishing banner was used with a photography publishing business I no longer promote. I still occasionally do electronic photo restoration and preservation of old photo albums. I scan original photo's, digitally preserve them after color correction, then produce a "coffee table" printed photo album (via Kodak). This is a wonderful way to maintain cherished photos and albums and even share copies with other family members. The name fit that business.
